TERM PAPERS ON EUTHANASIA
How society deals with end of life issues has changed dramatically over time. Centuries ago, people did not on average live long enough for quality of life to become a major issue, and most would be dead long before what we now consider old age. More recently, the experience of the medical abuses of World War II and the Nazi regime cast a pall over efforts to empower doctors to administer fatal doses of drugs to help patients end their own lives. It was only at the end of the twentieth century that such issues became open for debate, largely after the Netherlands legalized euthanasia and physician assisted suicide, followed by Belgium and Luxembourg.
More than 1.7% of all deaths in the Netherlands are now due to euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide, but shockingly researchers have found that as many as 500 people each year receive euthanasia involuntarily. They did not consent to their deaths, but they were euthanized anyway because their families, the courts, and medical experts determined that they should not continue to live, either due to terminal illness or some other condition.
Because the issue is so controversial, especially in terms of importing the practice to North America, when it comes to term papers, euthanasia is an increasingly popular topic. When you have term papers, euthanasia can be a challenge to write about, but there is help!
